General breed information
The Hanoverian is a warmblood horse originating from Hanover in Germany. This horse breed is among the best sport horses in the world. The breed originated in 1735, the horse then served as a calvary horse, riding horse and carriage horse. In the 18th century, it developed as an outstanding riding horse.
The Hanoverian's height is between 1.60 metres and 1.75 metres. They do not have a very elegant head, but a very friendly appearance. The neck is long and muscular, as is the back. The shoulder is sloping. The horse has a lot of mass and is long and broad. The tail is high-set and carried high. They are often found in the colours chestnut and bay. However, they also occur in black and grey.
Hanoverians have a long stride, an energetic trot and a springy canter. All gaits are very spacious and there is little knee action. They have also proven that they are gifted for jumping.
They are inquisitive, reliable and attentive horses.
